Whoever, knowing or having reason to believe that an offence has been committed, causes any evidence of the commission of that offence to disappear, with the intention of screening the offender from legal punishment, or with that intention gives any information respecting the offence which he knows or believes to be false shall,— (a) if the offence which he knows or believes to have been committed is punishable with death, be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine; (b) if the offence is punishable with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment which may extend to ten years, be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, and shall also be liable to fine; (c) if the offence is punishable with imprisonment for any term not extending to ten years, be…
जो कोई, यह जानते हुए या यह विश्वास करने का कारण रखते हुए कि कोई अपराध किया गया है, उस अपराध के किए जाने के किसी साक्ष्य का विललोप, इस आशय से कारित करता है कि अपराधी को विधिक दंड से बचाया जा सके या उस आशय से उस अपराध से संबंधित कोई ऐसी सूचना देता है, जिसके मिथ्या होने का उसे ज्ञान या विश्वास है, (क) यदि वह अपराध जिसके किए जाने का उसे ज्ञान या विश्वास है, मृत्यु से दंडनीय हो, तो वह दोनों में से किसी भांति के कारावास से जिसकी अवधि सात वर्ष तक की हो सकेगी, दंडित किया जाएगा और जुर्माने का भी दायी होगा ; (ख) और यदि वह अपराध आजीवन कारावास से, या ऐसे कारावास से, जो दस वर्ष तक का हो सकेगा, दंडनीय हो, तो वह दोनों में से किसी भांति के, कारावास से, जिसकी अवधि तीन वर्ष तक की हो सकेगी, दंडित किया जाएगा…
