(1) Whoever counterfeits upon, or in the substance of, any material, any device or mark used for the purpose of authenticating any document described in section 338, intending that such device or mark shall be used for the purpose of giving the appearance of authenticity to any document then forged or thereafter to be forged on such material, or who, with such intent, has in his possession any material upon or in the substance of which any such device or mark has been counterfeited, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine. (1) जो कोई, किसी पदार्थ के ऊपर, या उसके उपादान में, किसी ऐसी अभिलक्षणा या चिह्न की, जिसे धारा 338 में वर्णित किसी दस्तावेज के अधिप्रमाणीकरण के प्रयोजन के लिए, उपयोग में लाया जाता हो, कूटकृति यह आशय रखते हुए बनाता है कि ऐसी अभिलक्षणा या ऐसे चिहन की, ऐसे पदार्थ पर उस समय कूटरचित की जा रही या उसके पश्चात् कूटरचित की जाने वाली किसी दस्तावेज को अधिप्रमाणीकृत का आभास प्रदान करने के प्रयोजन से उपयोग में लाया जाता है या जो ऐसे आशय से कोई ऐसा पदार्थ अपने कब्जे में रखता है, जिस पर या जिसके उपादान में ऐसी अभिलक्षणा को या ऐसे चिह्न की कूटकृति बनाई गई हो, वह आजीवन कारावास से, या दोनों में से किसी भांति के कारावास से, जिसकी अवधि सात वर्ष तक की हो सकेगी, दण्डित किया जाएगा और जुर्माने का भी दायी होगा ।…
